Beinn Sgulaird like Beinn Fhionnlaidh makes up the western end of Glen Etive. Sgulaird is usually climbed on its own in a circular route. The problem with Beinn Sgulaird is that it’s a bit tricky to get to as Loch Etive rudely gets in the road! For this reason most people take the coastal road via Oban to Elleric which adds a fair amount of time to any journey. The locals in this area have a nickname for Beinn Sgulaird, it is affectionately known as "The B******* " which is a bit harsh but does seem to provide a lot of interesting moments for a lot of people including ourselves on several occasions!
Having said all this Beinn Sgulaird is a fantastic hill, the whole walk will be a memorable one. The views across to the Inner Hebrides on a clear day are nothing short of spectacular. Other views are to be had are of Loch Creran and looking back over the whole of Glen Etive and Glencoe. The main feature on Beinn Sgulaird itself is its huge North West facing corrie a superb sight!
Parking is available for climbing Beinn Sgulaird at Elleric.
