Mountain rescuers will light beacon on Beacons for Queen’s jubilee


Mountain rescuers plan to join the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations by lighting a beacon – on the Brecon Beacons. Bridgend-based Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team will light the fire on Fan Gyhirych as one of more than 2,000 across the UK to mark the monarch’s 60 years on the throne

Five will tackle Snowdon in memory of friend who died on mountain


Five men will walk to the top of Wales’s highest mountain in memory of a friend who fell to his death on the hill earlier this year. The five, all from the Stockport area, will tackle the route to the 1,085m (3,560ft) summit of Snowdon next month to raise cash for mountain rescuers and Help for Heroes

Police name pair who died in munro microlight crash


Police say the two men who died on a munro in the southern Highlands have been formally identified. Alan McCaskie, 63, of Broughty Ferry, Dundee, and David Martin, 61, of Kinghorn in Fife died when their microlight aircraft crashed near the summit of Ben More near Crianlarich on Saturday

Police appeal after buzzard’s body found
